The idea
Built so my mum and grandma could learn English a little at a time: gentle reminders, useful words, steady practice. A full build from an empty folder — the learning content, the interface, and the database underneath it. The interesting part was structuring vocabulary and user progress so both could grow without the whole thing needing a rewrite.
What I did
- Built the platform from scratch, front end and back
- Designed and created the database in Supabase, with accounts and sign-in
- Wrote SQL queries to store, retrieve, and manage vocabulary and progress
- Organized 160+ words into categories that the companion phone app shares
- Built a practice mode with audio, hints, and reveal-the-answer
- Tracked accuracy, streaks, words mastered, and a seven-day activity chart
- Added scheduled reminders, CSV export, and import from Excel
- Shipped the whole interface bilingually, Spanish and English
